Have you ever had a Déjà vu?

I think you would agree that our brain is the most mysterious organ we have in our body. Scientists still debate on what percentage of our brain we use. What happens if one day we can use it to its fullest capacity? I trust in the potential our brain has, and that is why I am confident that human beings are capable of solving any problem they face.

The brain is a Pandora’s Box full of surprises. Consciousness, sleeping, dreaming, remembering, mind and body coordination, emotions, perception… We can grow the list much further. But there is one more thing that is quite an unknown that our brain makes us experience; Déjà vu.

What is Déjà vu? According to Wikipedia; it is a term describing the feeling that one has lived through the present situation before, a feeling of having “already lived through” something, a feeling of recollection. So, the scientific explanation is; a split-second delay in transferring information from one side of the brain to the other. One side of the brain end up getting the information twice – once directly, and once from the ‘in charge’ side. So the person would sense that the event had happened before.

The feeling that you have done this exact same thing once before — been in this place, engaged in this conversation — overwhelms you. At the same time, you are clearly aware that this cannot be reality because you have never been in this place or met these people at any time in your past.

Some people interpret it as a memory from a past life and proof of reincarnation, and some argue that Déjà vu occurs because the present event reminds you of a dream you had.

In any case, if you ever experienced it, you know how amazing a feeling it is. Though after a couple of times, you get the idea and when it happens again, you just say to yourself; “Yep, I had another one”. It is exactly like having a weird dream, or a nightmare for that matter, and consoling yourself by saying; “Don’t worry, it is just a dream” while still having the dream.

It still is a strange occurrence, an intriguing mystery. There are numerous theories about Déjà vu. And I would love to hear your take on this very interesting phenomenon.

  1. Not sure if you are aware of the works of Anthony Peake, but he has written 10 books now and the vast majority of them mention deja vecu (already lived as opposed to deja vu which is already seen). Fascinating ideas he has, do check him out
