Shine bright like a diamond

We are in the month of February and the elephant in the room is getting bigger and bigger by the minute. Yes, I am talking about Valentine’s Day. It is approaching and most probably making you nervous. If you have a significant other you start panicking about how to show them your love for them, if you do not have one, perhaps you feel a little lonely.

As I see all these special Days, such as; Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Valentine’s Day, etc. a product of consumerism pushed down our throats, I do not care much about the commercial aspect of them, but it does not mean that I do not celebrate them. I give the biggest kisses and longest hugs to all my loved ones (especially to my handsome husband) and make sure they know how much I love them. Not that I don’t do and say these things almost every day anyway, but any additional excuse to express love is always more than welcome.

While giving love to our family and friends, sometimes we miss one person though; ourselves. Giving love to others is wonderful, fulfilling and makes a difference in everyone’s life including ours, but giving out all the time and not nourishing our inner self does not serve us well in the long run.

I am not saying let us fall in love with ourselves, in a narcissistic way but when we respect, love and cherish ourselves; and when we accept ourselves the way we are without judgment, the positivity and love resonates from us to others. Just like a diamond reflecting mesmerizing lights and colors.

There is no limit to the amount of love we can feel for ourselves and for others unless we choose to limit it. On this Valentine’s Day, I want you to think about it and I want you, for once, to put yourself first, pamper yourself, give yourself the gift of self-love, because if you don’t give the love that you deserve to yourself in the first place, how can you expect others to give it to you? Though you might say; “What do you exactly mean by saying, love yourself?” If you are not sure about what that loving yourself really means, I can promise that I will explain what I mean with another blog post soon.
